A survival box is a box that holds the goods you’ll want to have on hand when you get to your new home. For many people, it's late in the day when your move is complete and after a long day of moving, the last thing you want to do is unpack all your boxes. There's no shame in leaving your boxes until tomorrow to unpack. In this case, you will want a survival box that contains everything you will need to make it through your first night in your new home. The contents of the box will vary depending on your situation. If you have a family with kids, you might need more than one box.

Here are some ideas about what to pack in your survival box:

Toiletries

  • Tooth brush
  • Tooth paste
  • Soap
  • Toilet paper
  • Hairbrush
  • hairdryer

Bed and Bath

  • Linen
  • Pajamas
  • Eye mask
  • Alarm clock
  • Book
  • Shower towel

Clothing

  • School clothes
  • Work clothes

Kitchenware

  • A few plates, bowls, cups, some cutlery
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Sponge
  • All purpose cleaning wipes
  • Kitchen towel

Food

  • Breakfast cereals
  • Long life milk
  • Bread
  • Oats
  • Things for school lunch

Pets

  • Pet food
  • Bowls

Pack school bags with books and stationery before your move so that if it's a school day after the move, the bags are ready for school.

A survival box can make for an easier transition into your new home. The concept works well for office and business relocations, too.
